The ketchup gives a tiny bit of color and flavor. Just an experiment that worked.

Looks very interesting to me, glad I found your site. Is the ketchup for flavor, or just a coloring agent?

BTW, you can put tomato paste in ice cube trays (or baby food containers used for home made baby food), then freeze. Just pop out a cube when you need a tablespoon.

It's only a tablespoon. I do anything I can to avoid opening a jar of tomato paste for only one tablespoon. The rest just ends up getting moldy in the fridge. I did use homemade ketchup which made it a little less frightening. But I bet it would work with whatever you've got.

Really?? Ketchup? And it doesn't taste weird? I guess it shouldn't, I mean I did spice cake with crushed tomatoes and green tomato mincemeat, but never seen this combo before!
